Sparkling pleasure with sparkling wine, Prosecco and co.

Sparkling wine and Prosecco are the perfect drinks to celebrate special occasions or simply to brighten up everyday life. With their sparkling freshness and fine bubbles, they bring a touch of luxury to your glass. But what makes these sparkling wines so special and how do they differ?

Production process of sparkling wine and Prosecco

Sparkling wine is often produced using the traditional method, in which the wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle. This gives it its fine perlage and complex aromas. Alternatively, tank fermentation is also used, which enables faster production and produces lighter, fruitier wines.

Prosecco is usually produced using the Charmat method, in which the second fermentation takes place in large pressurized tanks. This preserves the fresh, fruity aromas of the Glera grape used for Prosecco. The result is a light, refreshing sparkling wine with a gentle perlage.

Differences between sparkling wine and Prosecco

The main difference between sparkling wine and Prosecco lies in the grapes used and the production methods. While sparkling wine is often made from different grape varieties such as Riesling, Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, Prosecco is based exclusively on the Glera grape. The traditional method gives the sparkling wine a more complex structure, while the Charmat method gives Prosecco its light and fresh characteristics.

Another difference is the taste: sparkling wine can taste very different depending on the grape variety and production method, from dry and mineral to sweet and fruity. Prosecco, on the other hand, is generally lighter and fruitier, with aromas of apple, pear and citrus fruits.

The right storage and serving temperature

Sparkling wine and Prosecco should be stored in a cool, dark place. The ideal serving temperature is between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius. They are best enjoyed in slender sparkling wine glasses, which bring out the fine bubbles and aromas to their best advantage. Gentle chilling in the fridge or an ice bucket preserves the freshness and taste of the sparkling wines.
